On August 11, 1999 a film crew from Dick Clark Productions came to Bill's Place in Arroyo Grande, California and filmed about 40 local singers as part of a national "sing alike" talent search. Singers who sound like major singing artists were screened for possible inclusion on the TV show Your Big Break. One of the California Karaoke regulars, Kurt Jensen, was selected and his performance was nationally televised on NBC on 2/5/2000 (KSBY channel 6 at 7:00 PM locally).

Below is a letter of appreciation to California Karaoke from Jack Seifert, Vice President of Production, Dick Clark Productions

Dear Doc & Nancy,

On behalf of Dick Clark and Larry Klein, the executive producer and producer of Your Big Break respectively, I wish to thank both of you for all the help you gave us when we came to Bill's Place in Arroyo Grande, California to audition singers for Your Big Break.

As you know, we were under a terrible time constraint and considerable pressure to find suitable talent for our show. California Karaoke came through for us with flying colors. Despite the short notice, you were able to round up a number of very talented individuals, one of whom was actually selected to perform on the show.

Since ratings for Your Big Break have been steadily increasing, we at dcp and the folks as Buena Vista Television are increasingly confident that the show will be back for a second season. We hope that you and Nancy will again be able to participate in the selection process.

Hopefully we will have more time to prepare and, in turn, be able to give you more time. Thanks again for all your help. Best wishes for the continued success of California Karaoke in the new year.

Best Regards,

Jack Seifert VP Production
